When is a Geek not a Geek?

My cyber-mentor and good Buddy Mike Stopforth has invited me to a Stormhoek Geek Dinner. I don't know whether to be mortified or grovel in abject gratitude that someone thinks to lump me into Geek category. OK - don't go there! 

Knowing the level of Stopforth insanity, this promises to be an educational evening - on several fronts! I'm going to dig out my thickest spectacles. That way they'll match my intellect and I'll hopefully remain unobtrusive. :-)

Peter Bruce - Editor of South Africa's Business Day newspaper, isn't exactly given to emotional outbursts - well in print anyhow! :-) Haven't checked with his staff on the in-person aspect. ;-) So when he pens something like this in his regular weekly non-editorial column, one wants to take notice. Maybe the only time government will begin to take crime seriously is when enough reputational damage is done. And by then it will be too late to reverse both the crime and reputational damage. Even the insightful Zainab Badawi of BBC TV a few nights ago lumped South Africa together with other African resource-rich nations regarded as 'conflict zones'. Difference is that our crime levels are about personal (i.e. other people's) resources rather than natural resources. The largest number of victims are of course, black South Africans. What an irony following all those years of suppression. This is their 'liberation'?
