My dh also always feels like he should DO something. This actually makes him a bad listener. While i talk, i can see his brain already looking for solutions. That is what makes him a great handyman, though.

i see venting as 'thinking out loud'. I often have to hear myself think.

most people don't want solutions when they talk. They need someone to understand, to 'see' them, to feel their pain and confusion.
